Sony Pictures Entertainment has unveiled its ambitious and diverse theatrical slate for 2026, signalling a strong push towards large-scale cinematic storytelling across genres and audiences. With major global franchises, high-concept originals and prestige projects lined up, the studio’s upcoming releases reflect a strategic mix of commercial blockbusters and distinctive storytelling designed for worldwide audiences.
The announcement was shared through Sony Pictures’ Instagram, outlining a wide-ranging lineup that includes the return of popular franchises such as ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘Jumanji’, alongside original films, animation, and horror titles. The studio’s slate underscores its continued focus on theatrical releases and premium-format cinema experiences.
Sony’s strong 2026 lineup follows a successful 2025, when the studio balanced commercial appeal with global cultural relevance. Films like ‘Materialists’, starring Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal, performed well at the box office, while ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – Infinity Castle’, distributed by Sony, emerged as a landmark title. The film broke pre-booking records and became the highest-grossing international animated film of all time in India, demonstrating Sony’s ability to leverage global fandom and deliver large-scale event cinema.
The 2026 slate begins with ‘Crime 101’, directed by Bart Layton and based on Don Winslow’s novella, which releases on February 13. The film stars Chris Hemsworth as a meticulous thief operating along the 101 freeway, with Halle Berry playing an insurance broker drawn into a high-stakes final heist. The cast also includes Mark Ruffalo and Barry Keoghan. This is followed by ‘Goat’, a sports comedy produced in collaboration with NBA champion Stephen Curry, scheduled for release on February 20.
Among the major releases, ‘Project Hail Mary’, starring Ryan Gosling, arrives on March 20. Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and based on Andy Weir’s bestselling novel, the film follows a lone astronaut who wakes up aboard a spacecraft with no memory and soon realises he may be humanity’s only hope. The film will be released in IMAX and premium formats.
The studio’s mid-year slate features ‘The Sheep Detectives’, a mystery-comedy starring Hugh Jackman and Bryan Cranston, releasing May 8, followed by ‘Masters of the Universe’, a live-action sci-fi action-adventure directed by Travis Knight, arriving in theatres on June 5. The horror genre also features prominently, with ‘Evil Dead Burn’, directed by Sebastien Vanicek, set for July 24 as a standalone chapter in the popular franchise.
One of the most anticipated titles of the year, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, will release on July 31, with Tom Holland returning as Peter Parker alongside Zendaya. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film continues the narrative following the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and is expected to draw strong interest globally, including in India where the previous film performed exceptionally well.
The studio’s horror lineup continues with Insidious on August 21, followed by a new ‘Resident Evil’ film directed by Zach Cregger, releasing September 18, which promises a fresh take on the survival-horror franchise.
October will see the release of ‘Verity’, starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett, directed by Michael Showalter. The month will also feature ‘The Social Reckoning’, directed by Aaron Sorkin, which explores the darker realities of a technology platform, followed by another Sorkin project, ‘Archangel’, scheduled for November.
Sony’s theatrical slate will conclude with ‘Jumanji 3’ in December 2026, bringing back Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and the returning ensemble for a large-scale family adventure positioned as a major holiday release.
With a blend of franchise spectacles, original storytelling and genre-driven projects, Sony Pictures’ 2026 lineup highlights the studio’s continued investment in theatrical experiences and its strategy to engage global audiences across diverse cinematic formats.
