Sony BBC Earth has announced the launch of the fifth edition of its much-celebrated photography contest, ‘Earth In Focus’, giving photography enthusiasts across the country a platform to showcase their unique vision of India.
This year’s theme, Shades of Life, invites participants to capture the rich diversity of the planet while celebrating unity through their lens.
According to a press release from Sony BBC Earth, the contest is open for submissions under three subcategories — ‘Glow of Earth’, ‘Colours of Culture’, and ‘Vibrant Wild’. The month-long competition will be judged by acclaimed wildlife photographer and educator Sudhir Shivaram, who left behind a successful corporate career to dedicate himself full-time to photography and is now recognized globally as a conservation storyteller. Shivaram is also the Brand Ambassador for Sony Alpha India.
The top three winners across categories will be awarded the new GoPro Hero 13 and enjoy the rare opportunity of having their work featured on Sony BBC Earth. Additionally, the top 15 photographers will gain exclusive access to a masterclass with Shivaram, who will mentor them on refining their craft and exploring new storytelling techniques.
Speaking about the initiative, Rohan Jain, Business Operations Head – Sony AATH and Cluster Head – Marketing, Movies, Infotainment, Regional and Sony PAL, Channel PIX, said, “As a channel committed to inspiring passion and exploration, we are thrilled to offer ‘Earth In Focus’ as a platform for people to showcase their talent and contribute to our shared passion for the world. As we announce the fifth edition of the contest, we are excited to see the world through the lens of our talented photographers and share their stunning work with our audience.”
Judge Sudhir Shivaram added, “For me, photography has always been about more than creating an image; it is about telling stories, evoking emotions, and celebrating the wonders of life in all its forms. The theme ‘Shades of Life’ beautifully captures this spirit, and I am excited to see how each photographer interprets it through their own vision and creativity.”
