The Gujarati film industry’s record-breaking horror-comedy ‘Jhamkudi’ is set for its World Digital Premiere on ShemarooMe on October 17, following its massive box office success of Rs. 25 crores. Directed by Umang Vyas, the film blends eerie thrills with humor, captivating audiences and becoming the highest-grossing Gujarati film of the year.
‘Jhamkudi’ stars National Award-winning actress Manasi Parekh and introduces popular influencer-turned-actor Viraj Ghelani to the Gujarati cinema scene. The film features a strong ensemble cast, including Ojas Rawal, Sanjay Goradia, and Jayesh More, and takes place in the mysterious village of Raniwada, cursed by the wicked witch Jhamkudi during Navratri celebrations. The story follows real estate agent Bablo and royal family heir Kumud as they confront supernatural challenges, bringing both laughter and spine-chilling moments, the platform said in a press release.
Manasi Parekh, also a producer of the film, expressed her excitement, “We set out to create a film that entertains while provoking thought. The overwhelming response from audiences has been incredibly gratifying, and I’m thrilled that Jhamkudi has struck a chord with so many people.” She also teased the possibility of a sequel, revealing that fans at the Australia Gujarati Film Festival have been eagerly awaiting more.
Shot in the historic 500-year-old palace in Gondal, the film delivers an atmospheric blend of supernatural elements with top-tier visual effects that push the boundaries of Gujarati cinema. Adding to the film’s charm is its title track, a reimagined version of a popular Gujarati song, featuring vocals by Manasi Parekh and the band Aghori Muzik, which has become a fan favorite.
With its mix of horror, comedy, and cultural depth, ‘Jhamkudi’ is poised to captivate digital audiences just as it did in theaters.
