Shemaroo Entertainment has strengthened its push into large-scale regional cinema by partnering with Reel World Entertainment for the worldwide distribution of the upcoming Malayalam action-entertainer ‘Chatha Pacha – The Ring of Rowdies’. Slated for a theatrical release on January 22, 2026, the film is being positioned as a bold, high-energy offering that aims to take Malayalam cinema into uncharted territory.
The development was announced through a press release, which highlighted that Shemaroo will distribute and present the film across India as well as international markets. Produced by Shihan Shoukath, ‘Chatha Pacha – The Ring of Rowdies’ is described as the industry’s first WWE-style sports entertainment spectacle, blending the adrenaline of wrestling with strong emotional storytelling.
Commenting on the association, Nishith Varshneya, Head – International Business & India, Digital Syndication, Shemaroo Entertainment, said the film stands out for its fearless concept and mass appeal. He noted that while the film is unapologetically high on scale and spectacle, it remains deeply rooted in emotion, giving it the potential to resonate with audiences beyond linguistic boundaries. Varshneya added that Shemaroo is keen to back stories that push cinematic boundaries while staying firmly audience-focused.
Producer Shihan Shoukath described ‘Chatha Pacha’ as a passion project aimed at creating something Malayalam cinema has never attempted before. He said the partnership with Shemaroo brings both reach and conviction to the film, adding that the distributor’s understanding of scale, audience behaviour and content uniqueness strengthens the film’s journey across markets and cultures.
The film is directed by Adhvaith Nayar, nephew of veteran actor Mohanlal and a protégé of filmmakers Jeethu Joseph and Rajeev Ravi. Speaking about his vision, Nayar said the film follows a group of ex-convicts who form an underground wrestling club, using the ring as a metaphorical battleground for survival, pride, suffering and redemption. He described the narrative as one that combines WWE-style adrenaline with deeply human stories of brotherhood, second chances and dignity reclaimed.
Adding to its pan-Indian appeal, ‘Chatha Pacha – The Ring of Rowdies’ features music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, marking the celebrated trio’s first-ever Malayalam project. The film boasts a dynamic ensemble cast, including Mammootty in a special role, alongside Vishakh Nair, Arjun Ashokan, Ishan Shoukath, Roshan Mathew and Carmen Mathew.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of Fort Kochi, the story tracks its characters as they navigate fierce rivalries, sudden public attention and repeated clashes with the law. What begins as a fight for survival gradually transforms into a deeper journey of identity, loyalty and redemption. With its scale, ambition and unconventional premise, ‘Chatha Pacha – The Ring of Rowdies’ is being positioned as a bold new chapter in mainstream Indian cinema.
