Shekhar Suman is making a return to the late-night conversation format with his new digital show ‘Shekhar Tonite’, nearly 14 years after stepping away from the space that once made him one of Indian television’s most recognisable hosts. The show is set to premiere on May 15, 2026, with new episodes releasing every Friday on his YouTube channel.
According to a production house press release, ‘Shekhar Tonite’ aims to revive the essence of candid and emotionally driven conversations at a time when celebrity interviews are increasingly becoming scripted and performance-oriented. Positioned as a digital-first talk format, the show promises unscripted interactions featuring personalities from films, politics, sports, music, business and culture.
The first look and trailer of the show were recently unveiled through a large-scale outdoor and digital campaign, triggering nostalgia among audiences who remember Shekhar Suman’s earlier television work known for its satire, humour and fearless style of conversation. Long before podcasts and online talk shows became mainstream in India, Suman had carved a niche for himself with conversational formats that blended wit, spontaneity and emotional depth.
The show is being produced under the banner of Sangani Brothers and Cobbled Street. The creators say the format will focus less on conventional interviews and more on real human moments, allowing conversations to unfold naturally without rigid structure or rehearsed responses.
Speaking about the project, Shekhar Suman said the intention behind ‘Shekhar Tonite’ was not to create celebrity interviews but conversations rooted in honesty and emotion. He noted that the most memorable interactions often emerge from pauses, silence, laughter and unexpected revelations rather than carefully prepared answers.
Adhyayan Suman, who has created the show, described the project as deeply personal and said it marks the return of a voice and presence that shaped an era of Indian conversational entertainment. He also acknowledged producer Dharmesh Sangani and creative collaborator Ritika Bajaj for supporting the vision behind the series.
Producer Dharmesh Sangani said Shekhar Suman’s ability to command conversations and connect with audiences remains unmatched even today. He added that the show is designed to capture that same warmth and spontaneity while adapting it for modern digital audiences.
With the growing popularity of long-format conversations and personality-driven digital content, ‘Shekhar Tonite’ enters the space with a familiar face who helped define the genre on Indian television years before it evolved online.
