Sanjay Basu and Anurag Chaudhury have acquired the Bengali daily newspaper Ei Samay from the Times Group through their company, Tidings Media and Communications Pvt Ltd.
Sanjay Basu announced the acquisition on LinkedIn, expressing excitement for this new venture in the media industry. Tidings Media and Communications, established on April 18, operates out of the East India House in Kolkata.
Ei Samay, launched in 2012 as the Times Group‘s first Indian language newspaper, competes with notable Bengali dailies such as Anandabazar Patrika and Bartaman Patrika.
Despite the Times Group’s prolonged efforts to sell the paper, Basu and Chaudhury finalized the purchase over other media houses.
