Reliance’s media company, Viacom 18, has secured the media rights to broadcast the first-ever edition of Major League Cricket (MLC), according to a statement released on Friday. Although the specific terms of the deal were not disclosed, Viacom 18 confirmed that the coverage will be available on various platforms, including live streaming on JioCinema and broadcast television coverage on Sports18.
Hursh Shrivastava, the Head of Strategy, Partnerships & Acquisitions at Viacom18 Sports, expressed excitement about the partnership with the American league, stating that Indian cricket fans can look forward to enjoying the action from the inaugural edition of MLC, Economic Times reported.
He also highlighted the role of JioCinema in transforming the way sports content is consumed, emphasizing that fans will have the opportunity to watch their favorite T20 cricketers and support teams affiliated with their beloved franchises.
The Major League Cricket tournament will begin on July 13 and will feature six teams, with four of them having investors who also own franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The popularity of the IPL has extended to the United States, following the successful conclusion of the South African T20 League.
