Nikkhil Advani’s much-anticipated series ‘Freedom at Midnight’ has added three esteemed talents to its already stellar cast, with the announcement of Rajesh Kumar, KC Shankar, and RJ Malishka joining the ensemble.
The series, produced by Advani’s ‘Emmay Entertainment’ in collaboration with ‘StudioNext’ and ‘Sony LIV‘, is set to unravel the intricate tapestry of India’s journey to independence, PTI reported.
Best known for his role in the iconic sitcom ‘Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai,’ Rajesh Kumar is poised to take on the challenging portrayal of Liaquat Ali Khan, a prominent figure in the pre-independence era.
Joining him is KC Shankar, recognized for his performance in ‘Rocket Boys,’ who will embody the character of V P Menon, a pivotal figure in India’s post-independence integration process. Additionally, RJ Malishka Mendonsa will bring to life the indomitable spirit of political activist and poet Sarojini Naidu.
‘Freedom at Midnight’ draws inspiration from the eponymous book by Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins, weaving together a narrative that delves into the pivotal moments and personalities that shaped India’s destiny in 1947.
The series promises to offer a compelling exploration of the era, shedding light on lesser-known anecdotes and the interplay of influential figures against the backdrop of independence.
The cast is led by Arif Zakaria in the role of Mohammad Ali Jinnah, with Ira Dubey portraying Jinnah’s sister Fatima, Sidhant Gupta as Jawaharlal Nehru, Chirag Vohra as Mahatma Gandhi, and Rajendra Chawla as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Nikkhil Advani, serving as the showrunner and director, expressed enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing its significance in revisiting a crucial chapter in Indian history. The series boasts a talented team of writers, including Abhinandan Gupta, Adwitiya Kareng Das, Gundeep Kaur, Divya Nidhi Sharma, Revanta Sarabhai, and Ethan Taylor, who have meticulously adapted the source material for the screen.
With its star-studded cast and meticulous attention to historical detail, ‘Freedom at Midnight’ is poised to captivate audiences with its gripping narrative and compelling performances. The series is slated for a premiere on ‘Sony LIV‘ shortly, promising viewers an immersive journey through India’s tumultuous path to freedom.
