‘Raja Shivaji’, starring and directed by Riteish Deshmukh, has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark at the domestic box office, emerging as one of the major successes in Marathi cinema this year. The historical drama, based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, has continued to draw audiences to theatres since its release earlier this month.
According to a PTI report, the film has collected Rs 100.13 crore gross at the domestic box office, as per trade tracking platform Sacnilk. Produced by Jio Studios and Mumbai Film Company, ‘Raja Shivaji’ released in theatres on May 1 in both Marathi and Hindi versions.
The film features Deshmukh in the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and marks one of the most ambitious projects of his career. Audiences and industry observers have praised the scale of the film, its historical backdrop and the emotional storytelling centred around the legendary Maratha warrior king.
The strong box office performance is being viewed as a significant moment for Marathi cinema, especially for large-scale historical films finding acceptance beyond regional audiences. The Hindi release has also helped the film connect with viewers across different parts of the country, contributing to its growing collections.
Since its release, ‘Raja Shivaji’ has generated considerable buzz for its grand visuals, battle sequences and portrayal of Shivaji Maharaj’s leadership and legacy. The film’s success has further strengthened Riteish Deshmukh’s standing not just as an actor but also as a filmmaker capable of handling large-scale historical subjects.
