The historical drama ‘Raja Shivaji’, starring Riteish Deshmukh, has registered a strong opening at the domestic box office, collecting over Rs.37 crore nett during its first weekend, according to the makers.
As per a PTI report, the film, backed by Jio Studios and Mumbai Film Company, hit theatres on May 1 in Marathi and Hindi. The film has been directed by Riteish Deshmukh himself, who also plays the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, a portrayal that has drawn significant audience attention since release.
The makers shared the box office figures through an official post on their Instagram handle, along with the film’s poster. According to the numbers disclosed, ‘Raja Shivaji’ opened to Rs.12.40 crore nett on its first day, followed by Rs.11.50 crore on day two and Rs.13.10 crore on day three, taking the total weekend collection beyond the Rs.37 crore mark.
The strong opening performance indicates steady audience interest in the period drama, which blends historical storytelling with a large-scale cinematic presentation. The film’s release in multiple languages has further contributed to its wider reach across regions.
With its weekend performance, ‘Raja Shivaji’ has emerged as one of the notable box office openings in the recent period, driven by both its subject matter and Deshmukh’s dual role as lead actor and director.
