Prime Video has unveiled the first look images of its upcoming original series ‘Bloodaxe’, an action-packed Norse saga from Michael Hirst, the creator of the popular historical drama ‘Vikings’, and his son Horatio Hirst.
According to a press release, the first look was revealed on October 5 in Culver City, California. The eight-episode first season of ‘Bloodaxe’ will premiere exclusively on Prime Video across more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. The series has already been renewed for a second season, which is currently in production in Ireland.
Set against the turbulent world of medieval Scandinavia, ‘Bloodaxe’ follows the rise of Erik Bloodaxe, one of history’s most renowned Norse raiders, played by Xavier Molyneux. The story also focuses on his formidable wife, Gunnhild, Mother of Kings, portrayed by Jessica Madsen. Together, they become central figures in the struggle for the throne of Norway, as rival factions, shifting alliances and brutal betrayals threaten to tear the kingdom apart.
As the battle for power intensifies, the conflict draws in powerful rulers from across Scandinavia as well as a formidable English king. With war approaching and the kingdom descending into chaos, the series promises a sweeping Norse story built around ambition, loyalty, betrayal and the fight for power.
The first season features Xavier Molyneux, Jessica Madsen, Karlis Arnolds Avots, Levi Miller, Rod Hallett, Alina Tomnikov, Sisse Marie, Rune Temte and Jesper Christensen in key roles.
‘Bloodaxe’ is executive produced by Michael Hirst and Horatio Hirst, who also serve as showrunners and writers. The executive producing team additionally includes Morgan O’Sullivan through O’Sullivan Productions, Steve Stark through Toluca Pictures, Arturo Interian, John Weber and Sheila Hockin.
With its historical setting, large-scale conflicts and a creative team led by the creator of Vikings, ‘Bloodaxe’ is positioned as Prime Video’s latest original series to explore the dramatic world of Norse history and legend.
