Prime Video unveils expansive India slate with star-led originals

Amazon Prime Video yesterday unveiled an expansive slate of Indian originals spanning multiple languages and genres, headlined by marquee stars and filmmakers, signalling a strong push to deepen its content portfolio across theatrical and streaming segments.

The announcement, made at the ‘Prime Video Presents’ event hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar in Mumbai, showcased a mix of new titles, returning franchises and original films.

Among the biggest highlights is the spy series ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny’, starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu and created by Raj and DK, alongside another ambitious project ‘Citadel: India’, part of the global espionage franchise. The lineup also includes the second installment of ‘Call Me Bae’, headlined by Ananya Panday, and ‘Matka King’, backed by filmmaker Karan Johar.

The platform also announced new seasons of its most popular franchises, including ‘Mirzapur’, ‘The Family Man’, ‘Panchayat’, ‘Paatal Lok’ The Viral Fever-produced Gram Chikitsalay’and ‘Bandish Bandits’, reinforcing its focus on proven properties with strong fan bases. In the southern slate, titles like ‘Suzhal’ are also set to return with new seasons.

Prime Video further expanded its original content with fresh series such as ‘Gulkanda Tales’ and a range of yet-to-be-detailed projects featuring actors like Rana Daggubati, Naga Chaitanya and Anil Kapoor, indicating a broad mix of Hindi and regional storytelling.

On the film front, the streamer announced multiple original movies and post-theatrical digital premieres, adding to a slate that cuts across genres and languages. The overall lineup comprises 69 titles, including 27 new shows, original films and a significant number of theatrical acquisitions that will stream after cinema release.

Senior executives of Prime Video, highlighted India as a key growth market, noting strong engagement across both subscription and ad-supported offerings such as miniTV, which has seen significant growth in watch time. The company also emphasised its strategy of catering to diverse audience segments through a mix of premium originals and accessible content.

“This slate marks Prime Video India’s new era, delivering unparalleled content diversity,” said Shilangi Mukherji, Director and Head of SVOD Business, Prime Video India, adding, “India remains central to Prime Video’s global growth, ranking among the top territories worldwide for attracting new Prime members in 2025.

“Close to two-thirds of our customers watch content in more than four languages, reflecting the growing appetite for diverse storytelling. And our Indian content is resonating globally among customers as well — over half of the most-watched Top 50 non-English titles in 2025 came from Prime Video India.”

A key highlight included the unveiling of Amazon MGM Studio’s exciting new theatrical slate with five new Indian movies: ‘Raftaar’, starring Rajkummar Rao, Keerthy Suresh and directed by Aditya Nimbalkar; Kunal Kemmu’s directorial venture ‘VIBE’, featuring Kemmu, Preity G Zinta, and Sparsh Shrivastava; ‘Dilkashi, directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, produced by Hansal Mehta and Sahil Saigal, with music by A.R. Rahman; ‘Nayyi Navelli, starring Yami Gautam, directed by Balaji Mohan and produced by Aanand L. Rai; and ‘Kuku Ki Kundli’ directed by Sharan Sharma, featuring Bhuvan Bam and Wamiqa Gabbi.

Not just theatricals, the slate also delivers a significant lineup of licensed movies across multiple Indian languages with post-theatrical digital premieres on the service, promising a bold, cinematic experience for audiences.

The content slate also includes Original series ‘Storm’, marking Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan’s debut in the streaming space as producer.

Created and directed by Ajitpal Singh, the high-stakes thriller drama set in Mumbai will be produced by Hrithik and Eshaan Roshan under their banner, HRX Films (a division of FilmKraft Productions).

The series, featuring a powerful ensemble cast including Parvathy Thiruvothu, Alaya F, Srishti Shrivastava, Rrama Sharma and Saba Azad, will start filming schedules soon.

A PTI report from Mumbai added that Bollywood star Aliat Bhatt announced her upcoming production ‘Don’t be Shy’, a coming-of-age film, for streaming service Prime Video.

The actor is producing the film with her sister Shaheen Bhatt under their banner Eternal Sunshine Productions.

“Ours is a small, passionate, and new production company, Eternal Sunshine Productions Shaheen and I decided that we would like to give sunshine to the movies that the movies have given to us,” Alia said.
