Prime Video is set to unravel one of modern literature’s most gripping mysteries with its upcoming series ‘We Were Liars’, based on the critically acclaimed best-seller by E. Lockhart.

The eight-episode drama is scheduled to premiere globally on June 18, 2025, exclusively on Prime Video, spanning over 240 countries and territories.

As per an official press note released by Prime Video, the highly anticipated adaptation dives deep into themes of memory, love, privilege, and deception.

Set against the hauntingly picturesque backdrop of a private island off the New England coast, the story follows Cadence Sinclair Eastman and her tight-knit group of friends—known as ‘The Liars’—as their idyllic summer world starts to unravel after a mysterious accident disrupts their seemingly perfect lives.

Leading the cast is Emily Alyn Lind in the central role of Cadence, joined by Shubham Maheshwari as Gat Patil, Esther McGregor as Mirren Sinclair Sheffield, and Joseph Zada as Johnny Sinclair Dennis. Supporting them is a powerful ensemble that includes Caitlin FitzGerald, Mamie Gummer, Candice King, Rahul Kohli, and David Morse, playing various members of the wealthy and influential Sinclair family.

‘We Were Liars’ is helmed by showrunners and executive producers Julie Plec—known for hits like ‘The Vampire Diaries’ and ‘Legacies’—and Carina Adly MacKenzie, who previously worked on ‘Roswell’, ‘New Mexico’ and ‘The Originals’.

The series also brings aboard the novel’s author E. Lockhart as an executive producer, promising a faithful and emotionally charged adaptation of the source material. Emily Cummins of ‘The Endgame’ and ‘Vampire Academy’ fame joins the team via My So-Called Company, with Universal Television (a division of Universal Studio Group) and Amazon MGM Studios producing the show.

The original novel, published by Delacorte Press under Random House Children’s Books, gained immense popularity for its psychologically layered narrative and unexpected twists, making it a staple on young adult reading lists. With atmospheric visuals and a suspense-filled plot, the adaptation is expected to mirror the same intensity and heartbreak that made the book a bestseller.

For fans of moody, character-driven thrillers and those drawn to stories of fractured memories and complex family dynamics, ‘We Were Liars’ is shaping up to be a must-watch this summer.
