Amazon Prime Video India content head Aparna Purohit got some reprieve from the Allahabad High Court on February 4, 2021 as it directed authorities not to take any coercive action against her till the hearing in the case was completed.
The Uttar Pradesh police had regsistered a first information report (FIR) against her relating to content-related issues on a web series called ‘Tandav’.
According to Bar & Bench, Purohit had filed an interim bail application under Section 438 of the Criminal Procedure Code before the court. While reserving its order in the plea, Justice Siddharth directed the State authorities that “till the pronouncement of order no coercive action shall be taken against the applicant.” This means Purohit cannot be arrested till the final verdict on the case.
An FIR was filed by the Uttar Pradesh Police against Purohit for offences under Sections 153-A, 295-A, 505(1)(B), 505(2) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 66 and 67 of the Information Technology Act. Aside from Purohit, FIR was also registered against director of `Tandav’, Ali Abbas Zafar, producer Himanshu Mehra and writer Gaurav Solanki.
It was reported that apart from the above mentioned FIR, various complaints were filed against them in Madhya Pradesh, Lucknow, Noida etc.
