Prime Video is set to take reality TV in India to a whole new level with its upcoming unscripted original series, ‘The Traitors’. Hosted by the ever-dramatic and unflinchingly witty Karan Johar, the Indian adaptation of the internationally acclaimed format drops on June 12, with new episodes streaming every Thursday at 8pmIST.
This gripping psychological thriller-meets-reality-show brings together 20 popular celebrities under one roof in a game where trust is elusive, betrayal is inevitable, and survival depends on outsmarting everyone else. The first-ever season, set in the majestic Suryagarh Palace in Rajasthan, sees the players compete for a massive cash prize — but not without plenty of secrets, sabotage, and spine-chilling suspense.
According to an official note by Prime Video, the show has been produced in collaboration with independent distributor All3Media International and BBC Studios India Productions, adapting IDTV’s BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning format. With The Traitors, Prime Video expands its boundary-pushing unscripted slate and brings Indian audiences a genre-bending, high-stakes reality format.
The first look at the trailer introduces us to the 20 celebrity contestants, which include Anshula Kapoor, Apoorva, Ashish Vidyarthi, Elnaaz Nourouzi, Harsh Gujral, Jannat Zubair, Janvi Gaur, Jasmine Bhasin, Karan Kundrra, Lakshmi Manchu, Maheep Kapoor, Mukesh Chhabra, Nikita Luther, Purav Jha, Raftaar, Raj Kundra, Sahil Salathia, Sudhanshu Pandey, Sufi Motiwala, and Uorfi Javed. The explosive trailer teases bold confrontations, dramatic twists, emotional meltdowns, and a never-ending battle of wits.
Each contestant will take part in psychological and physical missions to build the prize pool, while also trying to identify and eliminate the secretly assigned “traitors” among them. The twist? Only host Karan Johar knows who the traitors are — and he’s not giving away any hints.
Nikhil Madhok, head of Originals at Prime Video India, commented, “With The Traitors, we’re diving headfirst into a format unlike anything India has seen before. It’s edgy, wildly unpredictable, and the ultimate test of trust and betrayal. The Indian adaptation adds its own unique texture while retaining the powerful elements that made the original show a global hit.”
Karan Johar, sharing his excitement, said, “Characterized by lies, deceit, betrayal, and a whole lot of drama, The Traitors is a show to watch out for! I had a blast being at the helm of all the chaos and conspiracies that unfold. And just when the players think they have the game figured out… boom — it flips on its head. So, rise and shine, it’s Dhokha Time!”
Catch ‘The Traitors’ exclusively on Prime Video starting June 12, and prepare for a rollercoaster of deception, drama, and deadly strategy.
