Pratilipi has announced the launch of Double Tap Films, positioning it as India’s first data-backed microdrama studio aimed at redefining short-form storytelling for mobile-first audiences. Built on Pratilipi’s extensive IP ecosystem of over 20 million stories, the studio will focus on creating vertical-first cinematic narratives tailored for high engagement across digital platforms.
According to a Pratilipi announcement, Double Tap Films will debut with a slate of over 150 micro-dramas spanning multiple languages and genres. These will be distributed across platforms including Amazon Prime Video, MX Player, Hungama OTT, among others. The content strategy is rooted in audience-validated stories drawn from Pratilipi’s ecosystem, which generates over 800 million monthly reads, enabling a data-led approach to storytelling even before production begins.
The studio is built around what it describes as a “format lab to franchise pipeline,” where microdramas act as a testing ground for scalable intellectual properties. These can later expand across OTT platforms, gaming ecosystems, and global markets. With the rapid rise of short-form consumption, especially in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, the move positions Double Tap Films to tap into a segment expected to cross $1 billion by 2030.
Speaking on the launch, Ranjeet Pratap Singh, Co-Founder and CEO of Pratilipi, said the mobile phone has become the primary storytelling screen for millions of Indians, and the new studio aims to define what compelling storytelling looks like in this format. He emphasised that the focus is not just on short content, but on building a new cinematic language for the mobile era.
Echoing this vision, Sharlton Menezes, Vice President IP & Key Partnerships at Pratilipi and Double Tap Films, highlighted the growing popularity of micro-drama apps, which have already crossed 250 million cumulative downloads in India. He noted that the studio aims to create content that is mobile-first, emotionally engaging, and backed by deep audience insights derived from Pratilipi’s large user base.
The initial slate includes titles such as ‘Avnika Ki Shaadi’, ‘Apavitra’, ‘Aag Se Takkar’, ‘Raavan’, ‘Boss Bahu’, and ‘CEO Se Romeo’, each designed specifically for vertical viewing and quick, immersive storytelling. The content will be produced across languages including Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, and Gujarati, with plans to expand further through 2026.
