Planetcast Media Services, a prominent media technology services provider in India and Southeast Asia, has finalized the acquisition of Switch Media, a leading white-label OTT platform provider based in Australia.
The acquisition, announced on March 21, 2024, marks a significant step forward for Planetcast as it seeks to fortify its position in the global media services market and drive international expansion, the company said in a press release.
Established in 2006, Switch Media has earned acclaim for its innovative and award-winning online streaming solutions, catering to major brands and live events worldwide, including prestigious events like the Summer and Winter Olympics, FIFA World Cup, and Formula 1. With a strong presence across Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the United States, Switch Media brings a robust portfolio of clients and extensive expertise in OTT technology to the table.
The acquisition allows Planetcast to integrate Switch Media’s cutting-edge OTT solutions seamlessly into its unified platform, NexC. By aligning Switch Media’s product roadmap with Planetcast’s customer requirements, the acquisition aims to enhance the company’s ability to deliver comprehensive media solutions and drive monetization opportunities for its clients.
Sanjay Duda, CEO of Planetcast, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “Switch Media is the perfect fit for Planetcast’s NexC platform, providing us with world-class OTT capabilities that are essential for our media services and solutions portfolio. This strategic move will bolster our international expansion strategy and enable us to offer even more value to our customers.”
Utsav Baijal, Head of India Private Equity at Apollo Global, emphasized the strategic significance of the acquisition, noting, “As Planetcast continues to add value to its Indian and Asian customers, strategic cross-border acquisitions such as Switch Media are instrumental in enhancing its global footprint and capabilities.”
Mark Johns, CEO of Switch Media, highlighted the benefits of the acquisition for both companies’ customers, stating, “Our partnership with Planetcast promises to open up new markets and broaden our customer base. Integration with Planetcast’s NexC platform will unlock tremendous value for our customers, enabling them to better leverage their content and drive monetization.”
With nearly two decades of experience, Switch Media’s modular and flexible solutions are designed to meet the evolving needs of the media and entertainment industry, offering a versatile workflow engine for content ingestion, management, delivery, monetization, and analysis. The acquisition positions Planetcast as a formidable player in the global OTT market, poised to deliver exceptional online content and drive revenue growth for its clients.
As Planetcast embarks on this new chapter of expansion and innovation, the integration of Switch Media’s expertise and solutions marks a significant milestone in its journey towards becoming a leading provider of comprehensive media services on a global scale.
