Planetcast has acquired BroadStream Solutions, a company that provides technology solutions for broadcasters. The acquisition will add BroadStream’s playout, captioning, subtitling and broadcast workflow products to Planetcast’s media technology portfolio.

According to a Planetcast press release yesterday, BroadStream will become the foundation of Planetcast’s newly created Products Division. The new division will combine BroadStream’s broadcast technology with Planetcast’s global media services and distribution infrastructure.

The acquisition will help Planetcast expand its technology offerings for broadcasters and content companies. The combined services will cover different parts of the content process, including content preparation, playout, localisation, streaming and distribution.

BroadStream offers products including its OASYS Integrated Playout platform, along with solutions for time delay, captioning, subtitling and other accessibility needs. These tools help broadcasters prepare, manage and deliver content across different platforms.

Planetcast said the acquisition will strengthen its product capabilities alongside its existing global media services. The company plans to integrate BroadStream’s products with its media technology and distribution infrastructure.

David Bowes, CEO of BroadStream, will lead Planetcast’s new Products Division. He will oversee the division’s product strategy, development and expansion.

Planetcast CEO Sanjay Bhatt said the acquisition will strengthen the company’s product capabilities and give customers more flexibility in building solutions based on their business needs.

Planetcast provides media services and technology to broadcasters, OTT platforms, sports organisations and government projects. The company said its solutions support more than 350 channels and reach over 1 billion viewers globally.

BroadStream specialises in integrated playout, captioning, subtitling, caption encoding and other broadcast software solutions. Its OASYS platform is used by broadcasters for content preparation, playout and management.
