Prime Video’s beloved rural dramedy ‘Panchayat’ has returned stronger than ever, with Season 4 delivering the highest opening in the franchise’s history. Released on June 24, the latest chapter of the series has captivated audiences both in India and globally, reaffirming Panchayat as one of the most widely loved Indian originals to date.
As per a press release issued by Prime Video, ‘Panchayat’ Season 4 was streamed in more than 180 countries within its launch week and trended in the Top 10 list across over 42 nations, including the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and the UAE. In India, the series topped streaming charts and reached viewers in 95 percent of the country’s pin codes in its very first week. Buoyed by this overwhelming reception, Prime Video and The Viral Fever (TVF) have officially confirmed that Season 5 is already in development and will premiere in 2026.
Since its debut in 2018, ‘Panchayat’ has struck a deep emotional chord with audiences through its portrayal of everyday life in the fictional village of Phulera. Written by Chandan Kumar and directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra and Akshat Vijaywargiya, the show continues to earn critical acclaim and viewer affection in equal measure. In 2023, its second season was honoured with the first-ever Best Web Series (OTT) Award at the 54th International Film Festival of India.
“We are absolutely delighted with the phenomenal response to Panchayat Season 4, which has further elevated the series’ stature and set new benchmarks for authentic storytelling,” said Manish Menghani, Director & Head – Content Licensing, Prime Video India. “The season’s exceptional viewership across India and in over 180 countries within its launch week is a testament to its universal appeal and deep cultural resonance. Vijay Koshy, President, TVF, added, “This series holds a special place in our hearts, as it beautifully captures the charm, humor, and nuances of rural India, celebrating the power of simple, human storytelling. Panchayat reflects the shared vision and values we hold with Prime Video—to tell meaningful, relatable stories that resonate with audiences across geographies.”
