News18 India has announced the launch of its new flagship prime-time show, ‘Desh Ki Pathshala’, anchored by senior journalist Sushant Sinha. Marking a significant strengthening of the channel’s prime-time lineup, the show introduces a one-of-its-kind news explainer format that goes beyond headlines to deliver context, clarity and a deeper understanding of the events shaping India and the world.
According to the News18 India press release, an era defined by fast-paced news cycles and information overload, ‘Desh Ki Pathshala is built on the foundational belief that news is not merely meant to be reported, but to be understood. The show’s guiding ethos is captured in its editorial philosophy: “Khabar sirf batane ke liye nahin, samjhaane ke liye bhi hoti hai.”
The show will cover a comprehensive editorial canvas. From the world’s rich history and complex geography to shifting political landscapes, the latest scientific discoveries, government policies and pressing social issues, the show is designed to connect all the dots for its viewers.
True to its name, ‘Desh Ki Pathshala’, literally meaning “the nation’s classroom,” will break down complex and layered subjects into simple, visually compelling explainers. Maps, timelines, data graphics, and on-ground reports will be woven together to ensure that every viewer, from students to policymakers, walks away with genuine clarity. The show will consistently answer the three questions that matter most: why is this news happening, how does it impact you, and what does history tell us about it?
Jyoti Kamal, Managing Editor, News18 India, said: ” At News18 India, we have always believed that our viewers deserve more than headlines. ‘Desh ki Pathshala’ is our commitment to journalism that informs, educates, and empowers. In a media landscape cluttered with noise, we are building a show that stands for depth and rigour. We are confident that this show helmed by Sushant will not only strengthen our prime-time offering but will set a new benchmark for explanatory journalism in Hindi news television.”
Talking about his upcoming show, Sushant Sinha said, ” We live in times when information is abundant but understanding is rare. ‘Desh ki Pathshala’ is our attempt to bridge that gap to take viewers beyond the breaking ticker and into the story behind the story. Every episode will be a journey through data, history, and analysis, presented in a way that is accessible to all. I want a student watching from a small town to feel just as informed as someone inside a policy room. That is the promise of this show.”
‘Desh Ki Pathshala’ will air daily at 8.50 pm starting on June 16 across TV, CTV, and YouTube.
