Netflix has unveiled the teaser of ‘Akka’, a gangster drama starring Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte, set to premiere on October 30, 2026. Set in a women-governed kingdom in the 1980s, the series explores power struggles, deep-rooted traditions and rivalries between two formidable women.
Released on Keerthy Suresh’s birthday, the teaser introduces viewers to Pernuru, a distinctive world shaped by generations of women who have built, governed and protected their kingdom. The story centres on competing perspectives, shifting power dynamics and tensions that threaten to disrupt the established order.
Keerthy Suresh plays Bhavani, while Radhika Apte portrays Rudra. Their characters are at the heart of the narrative, with their contrasting convictions and approaches setting the stage for an intense confrontation. The series promises a layered exploration of authority, ambition and the consequences of challenging established traditions.
Speaking about the project, Keerthy Suresh said the teaser launch made her birthday especially memorable. She described Bhavani as one of the most unique and memorable characters she has portrayed, highlighting the compelling dynamic between Bhavani and Apte’s Rudra. The actress also noted that ‘Akka’ marks her first series with Netflix and YRF Entertainment, adding that the story and its distinctive setting attracted her to the project.
Radhika Apte described Rudra as a fascinating character driven by strong convictions and an instinct to challenge the world around her. She said the complexity of the characters and the tensions emerging from their differing perspectives were among the aspects that drew her to the series. Apte also expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with YRF Entertainment on a story featuring layered characters.
Written and directed by Dharmaraj Shetty, ‘Akka’ marks his debut as a writer-director. The series is produced by YRF Entertainment, with Aditya Chopra, Yogendra Mogre and Akshaye Widhani serving as executive producers. The cast also includes Tanvi Azmi.
With its 1980s setting, women-led kingdom and central conflict between Bhavani and Rudra, ‘Akka’ brings together crime drama and a story of power, tradition and rivalry.
