In a significant announcement, Netflix revealed that nine Tamil movies, including Ajith’s ‘Vidaa Muyarchi,’ Kamal Haasan’s ‘Indian 2,’ and Vikram’s ‘Thangalaan’, will be available on its platform in 2024 post-theatrical exhibition.
The lineup also features Vijay Sethupathi’s ‘Maharaja’, Keert
All films will be accessible with Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam dubbing, and Netflix will provide Hindi dubbed versions for four marquee titles – ‘Maharaja,’ ‘Sivakarthikeyan 21,’ ‘Thangalaan,’ and ‘Indian 2.’
Monika Shergill, VP – Content at Netflix, expressed excitement about the promising lineup, stating, “Adding to the festive cheer of Pongal, we are excited to share a promising lineup of blockbuster entertainment from the finest makers of the Tamil industry.”
She highlighted the success of South Indian content on Netflix, with a 50 percent YoY increase in viewership. Shergill assured members that the addition of these new films would make every night a blockbuster night.
‘Indian 2’ and ‘Thangalaan’ are highly anticipated titles of 2024. Directed by Shankar, ‘Indian 2’ is a sequel to Haasan’s acclaimed 1996 action thriller. The release date is yet to be announced.
‘Thangalaan’, directed by Pa Ranjith and starring Vikram, Malavika Mohanan, and Parvathy Thiruvothu, is scheduled for an April theatrical release.
Ajith’s ‘Vidaa Muyarchi’, directed by Magizh Thirumeni, and also featuring Arjun Sarja, Trisha and Regina Cassandra, awaits a release date announcement, adding to the anticipation surrounding Netflix’s Tamil film lineup for the year.
