Netflix has just made a thrilling announcement, revealing the premiere date of their highly anticipated docu-series, ‘The Hunt For Veerappan,’ set to hit screens on August 4.

This captivating saga unveils the life of the infamous outlaw Veerappan and features firsthand accounts from those who knew him best. Directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, a first-time documentary director, and produced by Apoorva Bakshi and Monisha Thyagarajan of Awedacious Originals, along with Kimberley Hassett.

The docu-series, exclusively available on Netflix, takes viewers on a gripping journey into India’s longest and costliest manhunt, which lasted 17 years. From shedding light on the struggles faced by the authorities in apprehending him to providing political and social commentary, the series unravels the captivating tale of Veerappan and the disorder that followed, The Hindu reported.

Producer Apoorva Bakshi shared his insights on the documentary, expressing, “Veerappan was the most infamous outlaw in 1990s India, and his story remains relevant today for its profound historical and cultural significance.

Through the accounts of those who worked with and against him, we aim to reveal the true psyche of this enigmatic figure. Our partnership with Netflix has allowed us to deliver an authentic, thought-provoking, and seminal show that provides viewers with a comprehensive understanding of the man and his life.”

Director Selvamani Selvaraj emphasized the mystery surrounding Veerappan’s character, stating, “For years, we have heard tales about Veerappan’s notoriety, yet the true reasons behind his transformation into a dreaded criminal and a supposed Robin Hood for some sections of society remain unknown.

In this documentary series, we meticulously researched his complexities, unearthing untold stories and unexplored facets of his life. Through our partnership with Netflix, we seek to contribute to a broader dialogue that transcends Veerappan’s individual story.”

Tanya Bami, Series Head at Netflix India, expressed their commitment to presenting compelling untold stories from India in diverse formats. She praised the upcoming documentary series and the passion and rigor with which the team brought Veerappan’s life to life on the screen.

Bami highlighted the success of Indian docu-series on Netflix and expressed confidence that the audience would be captivated, shocked, and moved by this gripping tale.

The Hunt for Veerappan‘ will consist of four parts and will be available in Tamil and English, with options for viewers to watch it in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, and Malayalam.

This multilingual approach ensures that audiences across different regions can immerse themselves in the pulse-pounding chase and experience the untold story of Veerappan in their own language.
