Netflix has begun production on its upcoming female-led comedy ‘The Fifth Wheel’, starring Kim Kardashian and stand-up comedian Nikki Glaser, with Eva Longoria at the helm as director. The streaming platform confirmed the development by sharing first-look behind-the-scenes images from the set on its official Instagram handle.
According to a UNI report, Netflix announced that ‘The Fifth Wheel’, featuring an ensemble cast that includes Fortune Feimster and Brenda Song, is now officially in production. The film is written by Paula Pell and Janine Brito and is positioned as a character-driven comedy set against the vibrant backdrop of Las Vegas.
The story follows a group of high school best friends who reunite for a weekend getaway in Las Vegas, hoping to reconnect and escape their routine lives. Their carefully planned trip takes an unexpected turn when a charismatic outsider—described as the “fifth wheel” and played by Kardashian—joins the group. Her arrival forces the friends to confront unresolved tensions, questionable life choices and friendships that are beginning to fray.
‘The Fifth Wheel’ marks Eva Longoria’s second feature film as a director. She previously directed Flamin’ Hot in 2023, which explored the origins of the popular Flamin’ Hot Cheetos brand and received attention for its warm, biographical storytelling.
For Kim Kardashian, the project is a significant milestone, as it is her first leading role in a feature film and also her first collaboration with Netflix. She has previously acted in Hulu’s legal drama All’s Fair and appeared in the twelfth season of American Horror Story, where she played publicist Siobhan Corbyn alongside Emma Roberts.
The film is produced by Paula Pell, Kim Kardashian, Jessica Elbaum, Will Ferrell and Alex Brown under Gloria Sanchez Productions, along with Cris Abrego and Eva Longoria’s Hyphenate Media Group. Mary Bundy and David Hyman are attached as executive producers. Netflix has not yet announced a release date for the comedy.
