The patriotic spirit soared high in New Delhi as Netflix unveiled its upcoming Indian original series ‘Operation Safed Sagar’ during the first-ever Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon 2025 (SIM-25).
The ambitious series, based on the Indian Air Force’s crucial role in the Kargil War, is created by Abhijeet Singh Parmar and Kushal Srivastava, and directed by Oni Sen. The show stars Siddharth, Jimmy Shergill, Abhay Verma, Mihir Ahuja, Taaruk Raina, and Arnav Bhasin among others.
According to a press release, the unveiling took place amid a charged atmosphere of pride and patriotism at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi. The event saw the participation of serving officers, veterans, dignitaries including Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, Chief of the Air Staff, members of the media, and thousands of civilians. Netflix India’s Vice President of Content, Monika Shergill, along with Series Head Tanya Bami, revealed the teaser of what is being called one of Netflix’s biggest Indian series slated for 2026.
Produced by Matchbox Shots and Feel Good Films, ‘Operation Safed Sagar’ is backed by the Indian Air Force and brings to light a lesser-known chapter of the Kargil War. The series follows a group of IAF pilots who risk everything in a daring mission to protect their motherland, showcasing their valor, sacrifice, and indomitable spirit.
Filmed extensively across real Indian Air Force bases, the series features authentic visuals of MiG aircraft and IAF personnel, offering a high-octane and emotionally charged portrayal of aerial warfare and heroism. Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh lauded the effort, saying, “I am very happy to see 12,000 people participate in this marathon in Delhi, which was also simultaneously conducted at 46 places. I would like to congratulate Netflix on launching the series ‘Operation Safed Sagar’. It was an air battle at the highest point, and the Indian Air Force displayed the highest degree of professionalism in achieving the Kargil heights.”
Monika Shergill, Vice President, Content – Netflix India, shared, “We are proud to unveil Operation Safed Sagar today — a story that goes beyond the battlefield. It’s about the courage, friendship, and patriotism of those who went above and beyond to keep our nation safe. We are deeply grateful to the Indian Air Force for their trust and support on this series, inspired by their remarkable role in the Kargil War. Working with creators like Abhijeet Singh Parmar, Kushal Srivastava, Oni Sen, and Mehboob Pal Singh Brar has been truly special in bringing to life a story that reflects the strength, discipline, and unwavering spirit of the IAF.”
Sanjay Routray, Co-founder and Director at Matchbox Shots, added, “Operation Safed Sagar is not just about war — it’s about courage, sacrifice, and transformation. With rare access to real IAF bases and the unwavering support of the Indian Air Force, we’ve created a heartfelt tribute to the fighter pilots who redefined bravery at impossible altitudes. Partnering with Netflix gave us the scale and platform this story deserves, enabling us to share this powerful narrative with the world.”
Abhijeet Singh Parmar and Mehboob Pal Singh Brar of Feel Good Films echoed the sentiment, stating, “Operation Safed Sagar is a story of grit, heart, and human spirit. Collaborating with Netflix and the Indian Air Force allowed us to tell this story with authenticity and grandeur, and we are thrilled to bring it to audiences worldwide.”
A story of unmatched scale, emotion, and realism, ‘Operation Safed Sagar’ stands as a milestone in India’s military storytelling. With its strong creative vision and the support of the Indian Air Force, the series reaffirms Netflix’s ongoing commitment to spotlighting powerful and lesser-known Indian stories for global audiences.
