In a significant move that reaffirms its long-term commitment to the Spanish entertainment industry, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos has announced that the streaming giant will invest more than €1 billion in Spain between 2025 and 2028.
The announcement was made on June 6, 2025, during an event held at Netflix’s production hub in Tres Cantos, Madrid — the company’s largest filming facility in the European Union. The event, marking Netflix’s 10-year milestone in Spain, was attended by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Service Óscar López.
The announcement was part of a keynote address by Sarandos, celebrating Netflix’s 10-year milestone in Spain.
In an official press note shared by Netflix, Sarandos highlighted how the company has collaborated with the local creative industry to bring over 1,000 Spanish titles to global audiences since 2017. From Madrid to Andalusia, Sitges to Murcia, Netflix has filmed in more than 200 towns and cities across Spain’s autonomous communities.
“Coming to Spain is always exciting, but this trip is particularly special,” Sarandos said. “Together, we have brought local series and films to our members here and around the world… and we still haven’t run out of beautiful places to film.”
He added that these productions including hits like ‘Cable Girls’, ‘The Snow Girl’, ‘Nowhere’, ‘Elite’, and ‘La Casa de Papel’ — have not only showcased Spain’s diverse stories and talent but also delivered tangible economic benefits, supporting over 20,000 jobs in the audiovisual sector.
Sarandos praised Spain’s conducive regulatory environment and the vibrant creative ecosystem that has enabled Netflix to deepen its roots in the country. The 22,000-square-metre production hub in Tres Cantos, with its ten world-class sound stages and cutting-edge post-production facilities, stands as a testament to this commitment.
“President, I am honored today to announce that over the next four years we plan to invest over 1 billion euros in Spain,” Sarandos declared. “With this investment, we will be able to contribute even more to the Spanish economy, create more Spanish jobs, tell more great stories made in Spain, and support the next generation of creative talent here.”
He also acknowledged the efforts of Spanish creators and professionals who have helped make Netflix’s journey in the country a success. Productions like ‘Society of the Snow’, ‘Berlin’, and the upcoming Billionaires’ Bunker have continued to elevate Spain’s storytelling footprint internationally, with Spanish titles generating more than 5 billion hours of viewing on the platform just last year.
The keynote closed with Sarandos expressing his gratitude to Spanish authorities and creative partners: “Thank you for allowing us to bring your stories to fans everywhere… The last 10 years have been nothing short of extraordinary — and we look forward to the next 10 years and beyond.”
Netflix’s renewed investment arrives at a time when global streaming platforms are increasingly localising content to strengthen audience engagement. With this strategic bet on Spain, Netflix not only celebrates a decade of storytelling but also charts an ambitious path forward in one of Europe’s most dynamic creative markets.
