While traditional media companies globally are attempting to be like Netflix, the latter itself is unveiling services and products that more resemble legacy media behemoths.
First, Netflix unveiled a TV channel in Europe and now a few days back it announced its merchandise business — Netflix.shop.
The company described it as an exciting new destination “combining curated products and rich storytelling” in a uniquely Netflix shopping experience.
“Netflix.shop will drop exclusive limited editions of carefully selected high-quality apparel and lifestyle products tied to our shows and brand on a regular basis,” an official statement said.
Among the items debuting this month are street wear and action figures based on anime series ‘Yasuke’ and ‘Eden’as well as limited-edition apparel and decorative items inspired by Netflix’s French original drama series ‘Lupin’ — the second season dropped recently is also making waves globally as its also dubbed in English — in collaboration with the Musée du Louvre.
“Just like in our series and films, we’re excited to work with new voices in this space as well. For our launch… Netflix.shop is also introducing a collection of anime-inspired collectibles from a remarkable group of up-and-coming designers: Nathalie Nguyen, Kristopher Kites and Jordan Bentley,” the company said.
And there’s more ahead. Keep an eye out for exclusive products from titles like ‘The Witcher’ and ‘Stranger Things’, as well as new Netflix logo-wear from Japanese fashion house BEAMS.
These limited-edition items join the vast assortment of consumer products Netflix has made available through trusted partners.
The Netflix.shop will first be available in the US before expanding into other countries around the world in the coming months.
“We’re thrilled to give fans a new way to connect with their favorite stories, and to introduce them to the next wave of artists and designers who embrace the power of storytelling in all its forms,” the company stated.
Maybe the next stop for Netflix will be theme parks!
