Netflix has released the final trailer for the much-awaited finale episode of ‘Stranger Things 5’, marking the end of one of its most iconic original series. The concluding episode is set to premiere globally on December 31 on the streaming platform, alongside a limited theatrical release.

According to a UNI report, the finale episode is titled ‘The Rightside Up’ and serves as the eighth and final chapter of the show’s fifth season. Netflix had earlier rolled out the concluding season in two parts, with the first four episodes released on Thanksgiving as ‘Stranger Things 5: Volume 1’, followed by three episodes under Volume 2 on Christmas.

Volume 2 ended on a dramatic note with Episode 7, where Max, played by Sadie Sink, regains consciousness and reveals Vecna’s ultimate plan — to merge the real world with a mysterious parallel dimension beyond the Upside Down, known as the Abyss. 

The revelation pushes the group into action as they devise a risky mission to enter the Abyss, rescue Vecna’s captive children and destroy the dimension using a bomb. The episode closed with a chilling sequence showing Vecna, still disguised as Henry Creel, leading his brainwashed victims as they are transported into the Abyss.

The newly dropped trailer revisits several defining moments from across the franchise, blending nostalgia with high-stakes action. It features intense confrontations with Vecna and glimpses of other nightmarish creatures that have defined the series’ supernatural universe. Sharing the trailer on Instagram, Netflix described it simply as “one last trailer,” underscoring the emotional weight of the farewell.

As reported by Variety, creators Matt and Ross Duffer first introduced ‘Stranger Things’ nearly a decade ago, with its debut season releasing in July 2016. The series quickly became a global phenomenon, followed by Season 2 in 2017 and Season 3 in 2019. Season 4, like the final chapter, was also released in two volumes in May and July 2022.

‘The Stranger Things’ universe has since expanded beyond television, most notably with the stage production ‘Stranger Things: The First Shadow’, which premiered in London’s West End in 2023 and is currently running on Broadway.

The finale episode, which has a runtime of two hours and five minutes, also marks the franchise’s first big-screen outing. It will screen in more than 500 theatres across the United States and Canada starting New Year’s Eve, in sync with its Netflix release, and will continue through January 1, bringing the curtain down on a series that redefined streaming-era television.
