Streaming giant Netflix has officially cancelled the comedy series ‘Unstable,’ which starred Rob Lowe and his son, John Owen Lowe, after two seasons. The decision follows the release of the second season on August 1, 2024, and the first season, which premiered in March 2023.
Despite its promising premise, ‘Unstable’ struggled to gain traction on the platform. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series failed to break into Netflix’s internal top 10 rankings after its release. It achieved a modest ranking of 10th place during its premiere week, accumulating 1.4 million views based on hours viewed divided by its running time.
The series revolved around Rob Lowe’s character, an eccentric head of a biotechnology company, while John Owen Lowe portrayed his son, who joins the firm with the dual goal of saving the business and helping his father regain control over his life. The cast also included Sian Clifford, Aaron Branch, Rachel Marsh, and Emma Pilar Ferreira, with notable guest appearances from Fred Armisen, Tom Allen, JT Parr, Lamorne Morris, and Iris Apatow in the second season.
Despite its cancellation, ‘Unstable’ showcased the unique dynamic between the father-son duo and received attention for its comedic approach to the complexities of family and business.
However, it ultimately fell short of Netflix‘s performance expectations, leading to the decision to conclude the series.
