Netflix has announced its latest unscripted offering, ‘Lock Upp: Sach ya Sazaa’, a high-stakes captive reality series that will premiere on June 27. Developed in collaboration with Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms, the show aims to combine psychological gameplay, social dynamics and personal revelations within a controlled environment designed to test its contestants under pressure.

The announcement marks another significant addition to Netflix India’s expanding reality and unscripted content slate. According to the streaming platform, the series will feature 14 well-known personalities who will enter a specially designed jail-like setting where they will live in isolation from the outside world while competing through a series of challenges, tasks and eliminations.

Netflix said the show goes beyond conventional reality television by focusing on perception, truth and personal narratives. Contestants, referred to as inmates, will be required to navigate shifting alliances, difficult decisions and intense pressure situations while revealing stories and experiences that lie beyond their public image.

The series will be hosted by actor Riteish Deshmukh and filmmaker-choreographer Farah Khan, who will take on the role of “Jailers” overseeing the competition. Their responsibilities will include monitoring contestants, enforcing rules and guiding viewers through the twists and turns of the game.

Speaking about the show, Tanya Bami, Series Head at Netflix India, said ‘Lock Upp: Sach ya Sazaa’ represents one of the platform’s major unscripted launches of the year. She noted that captive reality has been a genre Netflix has been keen to explore and described the format as an opportunity to spark conversations while examining human behaviour under pressure. Bami also highlighted the addition of Riteish Deshmukh and Farah Khan, saying their contrasting personalities would bring a unique dynamic to the series.

Ekta Kapoor, whose production house has partnered with Netflix for the project, said the concept was designed to generate discussions and strong audience engagement. She added that the partnership with Netflix would help take the format to a wider global audience.

Over six weeks, contestants will face daily tasks, changing status hierarchies, punishments, chargesheets and eliminations that continuously reshape the competition. As the pressure intensifies, contestants will be forced to confront both their strategies and personal truths, creating an unpredictable environment where alliances and perceptions can change rapidly.

Riteish Deshmukh said the show reflects the nature of today’s world, where public perception often evolves quickly and individuals are constantly judged by their actions. He added that every contestant enters the competition with a strategy and a version of their truth, but the environment inside ‘Lock Upp: Sach ya Sazaa’ is designed to challenge both.

Farah Khan described the show as a unique reality format that strips away filters and rehearsed performances, allowing audiences to witness how contestants react when placed under genuine pressure. She said the combination of personalities, conflicts and revelations would create an entertaining viewing experience unlike traditional reality shows.

With immersive production design, evolving gameplay mechanics and a focus on emotional authenticity, Netflix is positioning ‘Lock Upp: Sach ya Sazaa ‘as one of its marquee reality offerings for 2026.

‘Lock Upp: Sach ya Sazaa’ will stream exclusively on Netflix from June 27, with new episodes releasing every Saturday to Wednesday at 8 pm.
