Nepali filmmaker Abinash Shah’s film ‘Elephants in the Fog’ has been selected to represent Nepal at the 99th Academy Awards, which will be held in 2027.

According to a PTI report today, the film, also known as ‘Tiniharu’, was selected by Nepal’s International Feature Film Selection Committee. The committee had received two films for consideration for Nepal’s entry at the Oscars. The other film in the selection process was ‘Gauthali’.

The committee reviewed both films on several aspects, including their technical quality, storytelling, character development, artistic work and overall quality. After the evaluation, the committee chose ‘Elephants in the Fog’ as Nepal’s official entry for the prestigious international awards.

The selection means that ‘Elephants in the Fog’ will now compete for consideration in the International Feature Film category at the Oscars 2027. The Academy will later announce the shortlisted and nominated films.

The selection committee announced the decision through a press release. The film’s selection marks its next step on the international stage as it represents Nepal at one of the world’s biggest film awards.
