Navneet Kumar Sehgal has resigned as Chairman of public broadcaster Prasar Bharati, with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting accepting his resignation and relieving him from service with immediate effect.
According to an official ministry communication, Sehgal had submitted his resignation on Tuesday. The notice, addressed to him at Prasar Bharati House and issued by the BA-P Division of the Ministry, confirms that the competent authority has accepted his request under the provisions of the Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) Act, 1990.
Sehgal, a retired IAS officer of the 1988 batch from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, was appointed Chairman of Prasar Bharati in March 2024. With over 35 years of leadership experience, he has held key administrative positions at both the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government, where he is credited with driving major governance and policy reform initiatives.
Before joining Prasar Bharati, Sehgal served in several high-impact roles, including heading departments linked to infrastructure, industry, and public policy. According to Prasar Bharati’s official portal, he led the construction of the 302-km, six-lane (later upgraded to eight lanes) Agra–Lucknow Expressway during his tenure as CEO of the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), completing the project in a record 22 months.
The Ministry’s letter, issued on December 3, notes that Sehgal has been relieved of all responsibilities with immediate effect.
