Filmmaker Nagraj Manjule is set to make his OTT debut with the upcoming series ‘Matka King’, marking a new chapter in his storytelling journey. Known for his impactful cinema, Manjule is now venturing into long-format storytelling with a project that explores an unconventional and layered narrative.
According to a PTI report, the filmmaker admitted to feeling both curious and nervous as he steps into the digital space for the first time. Calling it a learning experience, Manjule shared that while he enjoys making films and intends to continue doing so, he wanted to explore the OTT medium and challenge himself creatively, even as he remains unsure about how the experiment will be received.
‘Matka King’, created and written by Abhay Koranne and directed by Manjule, traces the fictional journey of a sharp-minded cotton trader, played by Vijay Varma, who devises a new gambling system known as Matka. The story, which first came to Manjule around six years ago, has now taken shape as a series, allowing for a deeper exploration of its themes and characters.
The show is expected to blend drama with elements of risk, ambition, and innovation, set against a backdrop that reflects both opportunity and consequence. With Manjule bringing his grounded storytelling sensibilities to the format, ‘Matka King’ is likely to offer a distinct voice in the growing OTT landscape.
