Mukesh Khanna is set to bring back the beloved 1990s Indian superhero ‘Shaktimaan’—this time in an all-new original audio series. The iconic character will be reimagined through voice, with Khanna reprising his role as the superhero for Pocket FM’s latest venture.
According to an IANS report, the audio series aims to revive the legacy of Shaktimaan for a new generation of listeners, blending nostalgia with modern storytelling. Mukesh Khanna expressed his excitement about returning as the voice of the cherished hero, saying, “Shaktimaan isn’t just a show, it’s an emotion that lives in the hearts of millions.” He added, “I’m thrilled to connect with today’s youth through this format that they love, reintroducing Shaktimaan’s values, strength, and superpowers with fresh tales.”
Originally created and produced by Mukesh Khanna himself, the ‘Shaktimaan’ television series aired on DD National from 1997 to 2005. The show followed the journey of Pandit Gangadhar Vidhyadhar Mayadhar Omkarnath Shastri, a mild-mannered photographer who transforms into the superhero Shaktimaan through meditation and the power of the five elements of nature. The series also featured notable characters like journalist Geeta Vishwas and the villain Tamraj Kilvish, earning widespread popularity for its positive influence on children across India.
Over the years, Shaktimaan’s impact has been acknowledged by political leaders, and the franchise expanded with an animated series in 2011 and a television film in 2013. In 2024, Khanna teased the revival of Shaktimaan, generating excitement among fans.
Rohan Nayak, CEO and Co-Founder of Pocket Entertainment, highlighted the significance of the audio format, saying, “Bringing Shaktimaan to audio is a proud moment for us. It’s a perfect example of how a timeless legacy can meet the power of modern storytelling.” He emphasized that the collaboration with Mukesh Khanna is “more than just nostalgia” and marks a bold step towards creating a rich sci-fi and fantasy audio universe in Indian storytelling.
Produced in partnership with Mukesh Khanna’s Bheeshma International, the audio series promises an original plot and fresh adventures that will resonate with both longtime fans and new listeners alike.
