In a significant move to nurture India’s growing game development ecosystem, Meta has launched the Meta Gaming Accelerator, a programme aimed at empowering aspiring game developers across the country. The initiative promises to support creators with resources, mentorship, and opportunities to scale their gaming ideas into successful ventures.
According to an IANS report, the programme is designed to help budding developers transform their prototypes into full-fledged games by providing access to funding, mentorship from industry veterans, and workshops focused on design, technology, and business growth. The accelerator will particularly focus on mobile gaming — a sector that has seen exponential growth in India over the last few years.
India has quickly emerged as one of the world’s largest gaming markets, driven by affordable smartphones, high-speed internet penetration, and a youthful population. Recognizing this potential, Meta’s accelerator seeks to bridge the gap between raw talent and industry readiness. It will also emphasize diversity, encouraging participation from underrepresented communities in gaming, including women and creators from smaller towns.
The company stated that selected participants will benefit from a curriculum that includes product development support, mentorship from Meta’s global network of gaming experts, and opportunities to showcase their games to investors and publishers. Meta also intends to offer select teams cloud credits, developer tools, and monetization guidance, aimed at helping them commercialize their games both locally and globally.
“India is home to some of the world’s most creative and ambitious developers. Through this accelerator, we hope to provide a structured path for game developers to turn their ideas into successful games,” Meta said in a statement.
Meta’s latest initiative aligns with its ongoing efforts to invest in India’s digital creator economy. Previously, the company has supported AR/VR training programmes, small business development, and digital literacy campaigns across the country.
Applications for the Meta Gaming Accelerator are now open, with the first cohort expected to begin later this year. Developers interested in applying can do so via Meta’s official developer portal.
