Meta has apologised for temporarily removing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Facebook post. The apology came during a meeting between the company’s global executives and Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

According to a PTI report from New Delhi yesterday, Meta also discussed several other issues, including the spread of child sexual abuse content, deepfakes, and concerns over the platform promoting certain content through paid reach.

In a written statement, Meta’s Chief Global Affairs Officer Joel Kaplan said he apologised to the minister on behalf of the company for the mistake that led to the temporary restriction of the Prime Minister’s Facebook post.

Government sources also claimed that the apology came from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. However, Meta’s official statement only mentioned Joel Kaplan’s apology.

The sources further said Meta’s global executives have been asked to remain in India for another round of discussions with IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday. The next meeting is expected to include members of the company’s technical team to address the issues raised by the government.
