Yami Gautam-starrer ‘Article 370’ won the Best Feature Film award at the 72nd National Film Awards for 2024, while she was named Best Actress and Kartik Aaryan and Mammootty shared the Best Actor honour for their performances in ‘Chandu Champion’ and ‘Bramayugam’, respectively, the government announced.

Randeep Hooda won the Best Debut Director award for ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’. ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ received the award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, ‘Captain Miller’ was named Best Feature Film Promoting National, Social and Environmental Values, while ‘Amaran’ won the Best Direction award, a government statement on July 18 stated.

Among acting honours, Sanjay Mishra won Best Supporting Actor for ‘Bhakshak’, while Sachana Namidass for ‘Maharaja’ and Ropashree Varkady for ‘Mithya’ shared the Best Supporting Actress award. ’35- Chinna Katha Kaadu’, ‘Mithya’ and ‘Onko Ki Kothin’ shared the Best Child Artist award.

In the non-feature section, ‘Bhangaar’ won Best Non-Feature Film, ‘Ram-Nami’ was adjudged Best Documentary and ‘Angen’ received the Best Debut Film of a Director award.

In the writing on cinema category, Kenchanuru Pradeep Kumar Shetty’s Kannada book ‘Naaniruvude Nimagaagi Naadiruvude Nanagaagi: Kannada Cinemada Thathva matthu Rajakeeya’ won Best Book on Cinema, while Sanjeev Shrivastava was named Best Film Critic.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said the awards recognise the best achievements in Indian cinema across feature films, non-feature films and writings on cinema.

The awards were announced by Feature Film Jury Chairperson Jayaraj in New Delhi in the presence of Non-Feature Film Jury Chairperson Aseem Sinha, Best Writing on Cinema Jury Chairperson A. Chandrasekhar and Dr Ajay Nagabhushan M.N., MIB Joint Secretary (Films).
