Director K J Surendar’s upcoming romantic entertainer ‘Maayabimbum – A 2005 Love Story’, starring Aakash and Janaki in the lead, is all set to hit theatres on January 23. The release date was announced by the makers on Friday, building anticipation around the film, which promises a nostalgic take on romance set in the mid-2000s.
According to an IANS report, the film is being produced by K J Surendar himself under the banner of Self Start Productions. Alongside the lead pair, the cast also includes Hari Krishnan, Rajesh and Arun Kumar in pivotal roles, adding depth to the narrative.
Speaking about the origin of the project, Surendar said the inspiration for ‘Maayabimbum’ came from a real-life incident, which was later developed into a full-fledged feature film. He noted that the story explores an unexplored dimension of love for today’s audiences, with its 2005 setting expected to evoke strong nostalgia, especially among those born in the 1990s.
The director revealed that the film was shot across Cuddalore, Chidambaram, Pudukkottai and Thanjavur. The plot centres on a romantic relationship between a third-year medical college student and a nurse working at a primary health centre, lending the story a grounded and relatable emotional core.
On the technical front, the film features music composed by Nanda, with editing handled by Vinoth. Cinematography is by newcomer Edwin, while the songs have lyrics penned by Viveka and Padmavathi. The makers have expressed confidence in the film’s content, describing it as a strong emotional romantic drama that also places emphasis on friendship and family values.
The film has already generated interest through its music. The song ‘Yenkkulae’ was recently launched by actor and music director G V Prakash Kumar along with actress Vani Bhojan, both of whom praised the track. Earlier, veteran filmmaker Sundar C had unveiled the film’s first look poster and lauded the efforts of the team, further adding to the buzz surrounding ‘Maayabimbum – A 2005 Love Story’.
