Prime Video series ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ will return with its second season on August 29, the streaming service announced yesterday.
At Amazon’s inaugural upfront presentation this morning in New York City, a PTI report from Mumbai said, the streamer unveiled a teaser as well as key art for the show, which is primarily based on the appendices of ‘The Lord of the Rings’, specifically the description of Middle Earth’s Second Age, and includes younger versions of some of the key characters from the original trilogy.
Set thousands of years before the events of JRR Tolkien’s famed book series, the new show follows the forging of the original rings of power that allowed the Dark Lord Sauron to spread evil across Middle Earth.
A media statement from Prime Video said S2 will debut globally on August 29 with the first three episodes. Subsequent episodes will roll out weekly each Thursday.
The teaser trailer unveiled takes viewers on an action-packed journey back to Tolkien’s Second Age, and shows the ascending evil presence of Sauron as he continues his vengeful quest for power. Showcasing the cinematic splendour that the series is known for, and heralding the return of many fan-favorite characters, including Galadriel, Prince Durin IV, Arondir, and Celebrimbor, this first-look also reveals the much-anticipated creation of more Rings, the streamer said.
It also stressed that the series’ first season was an unprecedented global success and one of the top original series for Prime Video, viewed by more than 100 million people worldwide, and driving more Prime sign-ups worldwide during its launch window than any other previous content to date.
