Prime Video is set to premiere its upcoming suspense horror series, ‘Khauf’, on April 18. Starring Rajat Kapoor, Monika Panwar, Abhishek Chauhan, Geetanjali Kulkarni, and Shilpa Shukla, the eight-part original promises a gripping blend of psychological thrills and supernatural horror.
Created and written by Smita Singh, ‘Khauf’ follows the eerie journey of Madhu, a young woman who arrives in a new city hoping for a fresh start. She checks into a hostel, unaware of its dark, unsettling past. As she struggles to leave behind the trauma of her former life, Madhu finds herself ensnared by unseen forces lurking both within her room and beyond. As the sinister presence tightens its grip, her reality spirals into a waking nightmare from which there may be no escape, the platform said in a press release.
“Suspense horror dramas have a unique ability to captivate audiences by blending psychological depth with spine-chilling suspense, making them one of the most intriguing genres in storytelling,” said Nikhil Madhok, Head of Originals at Prime Video India. “Khauf elevates the genre with an intense, layered narrative that will thrill fans, plunging them into an abyss of fear.”
Produced under the banner of Matchbox Shots, the series marks Smita Singh’s debut as a creator and showrunner. Directed by Pankaj Kumar and Surya Balakrishnan, the show is executive produced by Sanjay Routray and Sarita Patil.
Reflecting on her creation, Smita Singh said, “Horror thrives on emotions and atmosphere, and with Khauf, we created a story that is both unsettling and deeply human. Madhu’s journey isn’t just about confronting external horrors—it’s about facing her own fears and past traumas. Collaborating with Prime Video has been incredible. They’re known for backing bold, authentic voices and giving creators the freedom to tell stories that might otherwise remain untold.”
Producer Sarita Patil added, “What sets Khauf apart is Smita Singh’s intricate storytelling, her creation of atmospheric dread, and a psychological depth that keeps audiences on edge, questioning what’s real and what lurks in the shadows.”
As Prime Video continues to expand its portfolio of original Indian content, ‘Khauf’ is poised to offer audiences a chilling new experience that goes beyond the ordinary haunted house story, diving deep into the fears that live inside us all.
