Hollywood actor Anna Kendrick is set to return to the director’s chair with Netflix’s highly anticipated adaptation of ‘The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo’, the bestselling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Kendrick will direct the feature film adaptation of the widely popular novel, which has developed a massive global fan following since its release.
According to a PTI report, the project is being written by Liz Tigelaar, with current revisions by Francesca Sloane. Production duties will be handled by Liza Chasin through 3Dot Productions and Brad Mendelsohn via Circle of Confusion. Author Taylor Jenkins Reid and Margaret Chernin will serve as executive producers on the film.
Netflix announced plans to adapt the novel several years ago, and the project has remained one of the platform’s most closely watched literary adaptations. Kendrick’s appointment as director is expected to generate further excitement among fans eager to see the beloved story brought to the screen.
Published in 2017, ‘The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo’ follows the life of the enigmatic and reclusive Hollywood icon Evelyn Hugo, who decides to reveal the truth behind her extraordinary rise to fame. She chooses relatively unknown journalist Monique Grant to write her long-awaited tell-all biography, setting the stage for a story filled with glamour, ambition, heartbreak and secrets.
As Evelyn recounts her journey through Hollywood’s golden age, she opens up about her seven marriages, the relationships that shaped her life and the sacrifices she made in pursuit of success. The narrative gradually uncovers hidden truths about her personal life while revealing why Monique was specifically chosen to tell her story.
The novel became a publishing phenomenon due to its emotionally layered storytelling, complex characters and exploration of fame, identity, love and loss. It has consistently remained popular among readers and book clubs, with many considering it one of the most successful contemporary historical fiction novels of recent years.
Kendrick, known for acclaimed performances in films such as ‘Pitch Perfect’, ‘Up in the Air’ and ‘A Simple Favor’, has increasingly expanded her creative portfolio beyond acting. Her involvement as director adds significant star power to a project already carrying considerable audience anticipation.
While Netflix has not yet announced casting details for the lead roles of Evelyn Hugo and Monique Grant, the adaptation continues to be one of the most eagerly awaited projects among fans of the novel.
