Prime Video is set to bring yet another rooted and quirky story to its global audience with the upcoming release of ‘Uppu Kappurambu’, a Telugu-language satire starring National Award-winning actor Keerthy Suresh. The film is scheduled to premiere digitally on July 4, 2025.
Helmed by director Ani I.V. Sasi, ‘Uppu Kappurambu’ features an ensemble cast including Suhas, Babu Mohan, Shatru, and Talluri Rameshwari in pivotal roles. Produced by Radhika Lavu under the banner of Ellanar Films Pvt Ltd, the film takes audiences back to the heart of rural South India in the 1990s, blending social commentary with irreverent humour, PTI yesterday reported from Mumbai.
In an official press note from Prime Video, the platform shared its excitement over bringing this slice-of-life satire to audiences worldwide. Nikhil Madhok, Director & Head of Originals at Prime Video India, said, “‘Uppu Kappurambu’ is a thought-provoking, yet delightfully quirky satire that captures the essence of an authentic rural milieu whilst bringing to the fore an unconventional theme. We are proud to collaborate with Ellanar Films and take Ani I.V. Sasi’s unique vision, alongside a talented cast led by Keerthy Suresh and Suhas, to a global audience.”
Director Ani I.V. Sasi explained that the story was born from a world he had long dreamt of bringing to life. “Set against the quirky and chaotic backdrop of rural life in the ’90s, it uses satire and humour to explore how ordinary people navigate extraordinary situations with limited means but an unbreakable spirit. We wanted it to deal with very serious issues in society — but in a very silly and cartoonish way,” he added.
At the heart of the narrative lies the fictional village of Chitti Jayapuram, where the townsfolk are faced with an unusual crisis, a crumbling burial infrastructure. What unfolds is a coming-of-age satire that reflects on deeply-rooted societal gaps through the lens of innocent humour and exaggerated situations. The film delivers its message without preaching, relying instead on comedy and character-driven storytelling to hold up a mirror to the times.
Yesterday, Prime Video dropped a vibrant poster of the film on Instagram, captioned: “Get ready for this heartwarming ride with the citizens of Chitti Jayapuram. #UppuKappurambuOnPrime, New Movie, July 4.” The colourful art hints at the film’s spirited tone and eccentric storyline.
‘Uppu Kappurambu’ will stream in Telugu with dubbed versions available in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada, underscoring Prime Video’s strategy of providing pan-Indian stories with universal appeal.
