Karan Dayanidhi Maran, son of former Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran, has announced the launch of KadhaiShorts, Tamil Nadu’s first dedicated micro-drama platform, marking the Maran Group’s entry into the rapidly growing mobile-first entertainment space, according to a report yesterday in The Economic Times.
Kalanithi Maran, elder brother of Dayanidhi and Karan’s uncle, is the founder and chairman of the media conglomerate Sun Group that owns the Sun TV Network and the IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Designed around short-form vertical storytelling, the platform aims to bring hyperlocal and culturally rooted narratives to audiences through two-minute episodic content optimized for smartphone viewing, the ET report stated.
KadhaiShorts will focus on Tamil-language originals initially, with plans to expand into Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Malayalam and Bengali by the end of the current financial year, The Economic Times report added.
According to the company, more than 100 original titles are already in production. The platform debuts with a curated slate of Tamil ‘Kutti Series’ spanning six different genres, aiming to combine emotional storytelling with contemporary viewing habits.
