Veteran actor, producer, and politician Kamal Haasan has made a bold declaration about his much-awaited film ‘Thug Life’, directed by the legendary Mani Ratnam. Speaking at the recent grand audio launch event of the film, Kamal revealed that while the OTT and satellite rights of the film have been sold, the rest of the distribution will be handled by his team independently.
According to a report by IANS, Kamal Haasan said, “I have come to sell not Thug Life, but good cinema. I am confident that you will buy Thug Life at some price.” His statement reflects his trust in the content and the audience’s appreciation for quality filmmaking. Kamal emphasized that his decision was not to challenge other producers but to showcase how strongly he believes in the film and its potential.
“Let me tell you how confident I am. Let other producers not think that I am throwing a challenge to them all. That is not the case. I have only sold the satellite and OTT rights of this film. Everything else, we are distributing ourselves. We are distributing without putting Mani sir at risk,” he explained, receiving thunderous applause from the audience.
Describing his belief in the project, Kamal added, “We know to do business to an extent. Trusting you, we have made a good film and invested in it. We have ploughed the fields and put fertilizers to the crops. A farmer does not know anything else apart from this. Our farming is cinema farming. To ensure that corporate farming does not happen, I need comrades like Mani Ratnam to support me. If you support this film, I will have the strength to deliver more good films.”
‘Thug Life’ features Kamal Haasan as Rangaraya Sakthivel Naickan and brings together a stellar cast that includes Silambarasan, Trisha, Joju George, Ashok Selvan, and Abhirami. The film, described by Madras Talkies as “an epic tale of power, rebellion, and triumph”, is among the most anticipated releases in Indian cinema this year.
With music composed by the Oscar-winning A.R. Rahman, cinematography by Ravi K Chandran, and editing by Sreekar Prasad, the film boasts a seasoned crew. The action sequences are designed by the acclaimed stunt duo Anbariv, promising high-octane moments on screen.
By choosing to retain theatrical distribution responsibilities, Kamal Haasan has not only reiterated his passion for cinema but also reaffirmed his commitment to producing and promoting strong, original storytelling. This decision, rare in the era of corporate-dominated releases, has only heightened expectations from ‘Thug Life’.
