Journalist Shubhankar Mishra steps down from NDTV

Journalist and digital content creator Shubhankar Mishra has reportedly stepped down from his role as consulting editor at NDTV, marking a significant shift in his professional journey as his independent digital presence continues to grow rapidly. His departure has sparked discussion across media circles, with industry observers linking the move to his expanding influence on online platforms.

Mishra’s exit comes at a time when his digital footprint has grown substantially, with a massive audience base of 78 lakh subscribers on YouTube and over 15.3 million followers on Instagram. He is widely recognised for his commentary on politics, geopolitics, entertainment, lifestyle and cricket, and has built a strong connection with audiences through his digital-first approach, the editorial team said in a press release.

Mishra first gained prominence as an anchor with TV9 Bharatvarsh before moving to Aaj Tak, where he further strengthened his presence in television journalism. He announced his exit from Aaj Tak in 2023 through X, formerly known as Twitter. His career in journalism began in regional media, including stints at India News Haryana and India News Uttar Pradesh/Uttarakhand between October 2015 and September 2017, followed by a tenure at Zee Media from November 2017 to December 2018.

In recent years, Mishra’s transition from traditional television journalism to digital content creation has been described as swift and impactful. His podcast-style videos and analytical commentary have resonated particularly with younger audiences, combining in-depth insights with accessible storytelling formats. The growth of his personal platforms has positioned him among the prominent independent voices shaping conversations in news and current affairs.

His reported departure from NDTV reflects a broader shift within the media ecosystem, where digital platforms are increasingly influencing how audiences consume news and information. With screens multiplying and attention emerging as a key driver in the industry, Mishra’s journey from newsroom broadcasting to independent digital prominence highlights the growing importance of personal media brands in today’s evolving landscape.
