John Abraham is all set to don the superhero cape in his next big-screen outing, teaming up once again with director Abhishek Sharma for an upcoming film titled ‘Munkeeman’.
The actor-director duo, who last collaborated on the much-appreciated ‘Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran’ in 2018, are reuniting for what is being described as a “high-octane, genre-bending” superhero drama.
According to a PTI report, the film will be produced by Mahaveer Jain and is expected to offer a fresh and unconventional take on the superhero narrative in Indian cinema. While specific plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, the title Munkeeman itself hints at an offbeat and intriguing central character, possibly fusing elements of science fiction and social commentary, much like Sharma’s previous work.
John Abraham, known for balancing mainstream action with experimental themes in films like ‘Batla House’, ‘Madras Cafe’, and ‘Attack’, is expected to bring both physical intensity and emotional depth to the role. The actor has been vocal in the past about exploring uncharted territories in Indian cinema, and ‘Munkeeman’ seems to align well with that ambition.
Abhishek Sharma, who has proven his versatility with films ranging from satirical comedies like ‘Tere Bin Laden’ to historical thrillers like ‘Parmanu’, is once again attempting to push cinematic boundaries. The filmmaker is believed to have been working on the idea of Munkeeman for several years, refining the script to strike a balance between high-concept storytelling and audience accessibility.
Producer Mahaveer Jain, whose recent projects have included collaborations that span genres and themes, expressed his excitement about backing a film that aims to redefine the superhero space in India. The makers are aiming for a theatrical release, with production slated to begin later this year.
While the Indian superhero genre has had mixed success over the years, Munkeeman arrives at a time when audiences are increasingly open to bold and original storytelling. With a team that has previously delivered a compelling and patriotic thriller in Parmanu, expectations are naturally high.
More details, including casting announcements and production timelines, are expected to be shared by the team in the coming weeks.
