In a major move ahead of IPL 2025, JioStar, the joint venture between Reliance Industries, Disney, and Bodhi Tree, is revamping its sports broadcasting portfolio with multiple regional sports channels and a strategic rebranding of Sports18 under the Star Sports banner, The Economic Times reported.
JioStar is set to launch five new regional sports channels in both Standard Definition (SD) and High Definition (HD) formats to cater to a diverse audience. As part of this transformation, Sports18 1 will become Star Sports 2 Hindi, while Sports18 2 and Sports18 3 will be rebranded as Star Sports 2 Telugu and Star Sports 2 Tamil, respectively. Additionally, Star Sports 2 Kannada will replace Star Sports First, and Sports18 Khel will be rebranded as Star Sports Khel.
The HD versions Star Sports 2 Hindi HD, Star Sports 2 Telugu HD, and Star Sports 2 Tamil HD will officially launch on March 15, 2025, further strengthening JioStar’s premium sports offering. With this rebranding and expansion, JioStar’s sports portfolio will now feature 24 dedicated sports channels across multiple languages, reinforcing its dominance in the TV sports segment.
Beyond sports, JioStar is also expanding its free-to-air (FTA) offerings by transitioning Colors Rishtey and Star Utsav to FTA platforms, bringing its total FTA channels to six and targeting India’s massive FTA viewership.
