In time for Independence Day, JioHotstar is set to premiere ‘Salakaar’, a compelling spy thriller that weaves together duty, emotion, and generational sacrifice. The series will premiere on August 15 and is directed by Faruk Kabir under the banner of Sphereorigins and Mahir Films.
The plot unfolds along two timelines. At its center is a young Indian intelligence officer on a covert mission that leads to discovering explosive secrets. Parallelly, a seasoned spymaster grapples with past decisions that saved the nation but created a shadow of legacy that weighs heavily on the present.
JioStar executive Alok Jain stated, “Salakaar embodies both emotional resonance and cinematic ambition… stories that challenge convention while staying rooted in powerful human truths”.
Director Faruk Kabir describes ‘Salakaar’ as more than a thriller: “It’s a deeply emotional narrative about fractured legacies and the cost of silence. Espionage is both a mission and a debt passed from one generation to another”.
The show is based on real events, offering a layered experience of resilience and sacrifice.
Starring Mouni Roy in a pivotal role, the teaser evokes tension and strategy, hinting at mind games and covert operatives working behind the scenes. With JioHotstar expanding its original thriller portfolio, ‘Salakaar’ joins the ranks of ‘Special Ops’ and ‘Criminal Justice’ that carry the hallmark of gripping, thought-provoking storytelling.
