JioHotstar, the merged streaming platform of Disney+ Hotstar and JioCinema, has emerged as the dominant force in India’s OTT landscape for mobile viewership in March 2025, according to data released by Nielsen.
According to a report in the Business Standard yesterday, the platform saw several of its titles feature across the top 10 most-watched lists for movies, original series, and non-original series categories.
These insights are from Nielsen’s Mobile Audience Measurement report for March, which analysed user engagement on six major platforms—Amazon Prime Video, JioHotstar, MX Player, Netflix, Sony LIV, and Zee5.
Leading the movies chart was ‘Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire’, the high-octane pan-India action film streaming exclusively on JioHotstar. Following closely was ‘Dragon’, a Tamil-language comedy-drama on Netflix.
JioHotstar, according to the report, continued to dominate the list with six films making it to the top 10, including ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ from Walt Disney Pictures and a strong showing of regional cinema such as Malayalam titles ‘Premalu’, ‘Ponman’, and ‘Aavesham’. The romantic comedy ‘Zara Hatke Zara Bachke’, featuring Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan, also made its mark on the list.
In the original series category, ‘Aashram’ on MX Player and ‘Thukra Ke Mera Pyaar’ on JioHotstar led viewership numbers.
The report also highlighted evolving viewer preferences, pointing to a significant rise in demand for international content.
