On the auspicious occasion of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti, Jio Studios and Mumbai Film Company have announced a collaboration for the upcoming historical action drama, ‘Raja Shivaji.’
Directed by Riteish Deshmukh, who also stars in the titular role, the bilingual film (Marathi and Hindi) will portray the inspiring journey of a young Shivaji who defied powerful forces to eventually become Raja Shivaji, establishing Swarajya.
Jyoti Deshpande, President – Media & Entertainment, RIL, expressed the commitment of Jio Studios to push the boundaries of storytelling, stating, “Raja Shivaji embodies this vision; it’s not just a regional tale, it’s a culturally rooted narrative designed to transcend languages and regions.” Deshpande also expressed pride in associating with Riteish and Genelia for this monumental project.
Riteish Deshmukh, the director, and lead actor, emphasized the profound significance of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy, stating, “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is not a mere historical figure; he is an emotion, a timeless saga of valor, and a beacon of hope that has illuminated hearts for over three and a half centuries.”
Genelia Deshmukh, Producer at Mumbai Film Company, expressed their long-standing passion for bringing the life of Shivaji Maharaj to the big screen. She noted, “‘Raja Shivaji’ is our biggest dream, and we couldn’t have found a better partner than Jyoti Deshpande and Jio Studios.”
The music for “Raja Shivaji” will be composed by the acclaimed duo Ajay–Atul, and cinematography will be helmed by Santosh Sivan, making his debut in Marathi cinema.
The film is set to resonate globally, celebrating the valour and legacy of Shivaji Maharaj. The announcement was met with enthusiasm from music duo Ajay-Atul, who expressed their pride in contributing to the homage of the revered king.
Renowned cinematographer Santosh Sivan shared, “Shivaji is not just a film; it’s a culmination of passion, dedication, and years of meticulous research and scripting by Ritesh Deshmukh.”
‘Raja Shivaji’ is poised to be a cinematic endeavor that goes beyond entertainment, aiming to weave a narrative thread enriching the cultural and historical tapestry.
